Art of Piano Playing
Piano Classes have many benefits. It is a great opportunity to determine musical interest and aptitude; develop piano-playing skills and fundamentals. Piano Lessons also help to develop memory and logical-thinking skills which help overall school performance. Students are able to play duet and group pieces, helping develop social skills. Through singing and playing, students will be learning music at a comfortable pace. Our piano teacher will do individual assessment for each student throughout the class. Activities include but not limited to: learning musical alphabet, playing games and exercises, learning basic music theory, reading music. Ballet/Iren Kamyshev
Young dancers will build a strong foundation in classical ballet through movement, music, and creative exploration. Students will learn fundamental ballet vocabulary including pliés, tendus, jetés, relevés, rond de jambe, port de bras, balances, turns, and jumps. Alongside technique, dancers will develop coordination, posture, flexibility, musicality, confidence, and artistic expression while building the discipline and focus that support dance training.All dancers must have leotard, leggings, skirt/tutu, ballet slippers. All in black/ pink/ black and pink combination.The Ballet outfit encourages dancers to dance true to the style. Long hair must be pulled up. Girls Gymnastics at Chelsea Piers
This beginner level gymnastics class is an introduction to the fundamentals of gymnastics and will take place off-site at the FIeld House at Chelsea Piers. Students progress at their own pace, with constructive feedback and positive encouragement. Please note this class will run in trimesters aligned with Chelsea Piers' schedule. The first trimester is 9 weeks from 9/14 and run through 11/23. Students will have the option to register for a 2nd trimester (11/30-3/1/27) or enroll in another afterschool class from December-February. In this high-energy after-school class, students start with a warm-up to prevent injury and get their bodies ready to move. They learn how to count music and understand rhythm, then break down hip-hop dance moves—sometimes traveling across the floor to build coordination. An introduction to skateboarding and skateboarding safety, proper form and posture,turning,acceleration and stopping. Louie has been a professional skateboarder sponsored by numerous companies for the past 12 years. He has been teaching children and adults how to skateboard for over 15 years. Budding designers will combine 3D art, Minecraft block and world-building, and creative writing to craft heroes, stories, and worlds in Minecraft and Tinkercad, a 3D design program in which you can create (and then print!) anything you can imagine. As we build, collaborate, and innovate, we’ll grow skills in 3D design, art, game modding, writing, and presentation. Swimming / Mark Vazquez, Aaron Saldana
This class is for 1st-3rd graders. 1st graders must be strong swimmers - no beginners. Class: Beginner 2 (Primary Skills) Description:Swimmers (ages 4-6) are comfortable submerging independently and will continue to develop floating, kicking, and gliding skills without support and are introduced to rhythmic breathing. Swimmers will develop combined strokes on the front and back and are introduced to deep water through jumps and dives from a sitting position. Swimmers should be able to propel 4-6 feet without assistance. Skills: Focus on properly mastering primary skills (floating, gliding, rolling over, front crawl, breath control). Independent front and back floats, Rolling over from front to back, submersions (without support) jumps & dives from sitting position, combined stroke on front and back. Class: Advanced 1 (Stroke Readiness) Description: Swimmers (ages 5 and up) have passed the Beginner 2 level and can swim independently for 4-6 feet. Students should be able to properly demonstrate primary skills (floating, gliding, streamline, freestyle) without assistance. Swimmers will further develop balance & coordination, fundamentals of backstroke, and freestyle with rotary breathing. Swimmers are introduced to breaststroke, butterfly, and dives from a kneeling/standing position. Skills: Rhythmic breathing, freestyle, backstroke, kneeling and standing dives, elementary backstroke, introduction to breaststroke, and butterfly. Children are expected to bring bathing suits and towels to swimming every week. The child’s name should be on all items. BATHING CAPS are required for boys & girls with hair below their ears. After an initial evaluation, some students may be asked to change to a higher or lower level swim class. If a child is sick or unable to swim, families must provide a written note to the afterschool staff. Accommodations in another class are not guaranteed and students who do not swim are NOT allowed in the pool area. Students may only sign up for 1 swim class per week. If there is availability after registration, another swim class can be added. -
WonderHut Art/Art for Artists
For artists who are building their portfolio for their personal practice and for showcasing their work to prospective schools. This semester we will work with paint and printing techniques to create bigger individual expressions. Including: Paint; acrylic, water color, tempera , acrylic paint sticks. We will incorporate color mixing , painterly mark making and paint drawing for a long term project. following we will delve into printing. From simple screen printing to block printing, and other fun techniques. End of the semester we will create a personal final project based on each artists choice and skill.
